The main reason to join PTA is your child! Use your PTA membership to:

  • Speak Up. Be the voice for change at your child’s school.
  • Volunteer. Use your skills and hobbies and show your child and all children in the community what you can do!
  • Give Back. Help make positive changes in your child’s school and in the lives of many children.
  • Engage. Spend quality time with your children through PTA events.

Old Dominion Racing Fundraiser Support-

Help raise additional funds for the school/PTA through the support of Old Dominion Racing. They have decided to promote local VA PTAs through two of their upcoming races: the Arctic Dash (on 2/25/17) and the Herndon Half (on 9/23/17). If you sign up for one of these races (or if you know someone that will be), please make sure to enter Newington Forest Elementary School on the registration form under "PTA Donation". A portion of your registration fee will be donated back to our school. This is a great way to promote health and wellness, as well as raise funds for our school!! Please visit to register.

Nominating Committee Members needed:

This committee is needed for a short time in the next couple of months to help share info on open executive board positions with our school community and to help find people interested in volunteering for those positions. The committee identifies nominees for next year’s elected officers. For the 2017-18 school year, both the President and Secretary positions will need to be filled. Volunteering for the nominating committee does not require any additional time commitment other than making parents aware of the positions that are open and helping find volunteers who are willing to hold those positions. Having a committee (our bylaws require 3 members) allows us to reach more people and hopefully be able to more easily fill the positions we need for next year. Please consider volunteering for this important role in our PTA!! If you have questions or are interested, please send us a note (

Teacher Appreciation Week Help Needed:

This year, Teacher Appreciation Week is May 1st through the 5th. The more people we have to help, the more things we can do and the more we can show our teachers how much we really do appreciate all they do. There are various ways you can help! If you have ideas of things we can do, you can help by sharing those ideas. If you'd like to take one idea and run with it for that week, you can help that way. If you are available to work on things at home that might need to be done for that week, you can help that way. Even if you can only offer up an hour or two, that will help and we will greatly appreciate it. If you are interested, please send us a note (
